Hey, all.
I have really gotten in to comedy the past couple months. I was always generally a fan of movies that were comedy because they are relatively easy to follow and keep my attention throughout their entirity. But over the past couple months I have listened to a lot of stand up comedy over Pandora, and I seriously enjoy it for the most part. Are any of you also fans of comedy? Who are your favorites? Here are a few of mine.
1. Demetri Martin. His jokes have a lot of meaning behind them and are very intellegently thought out.
2. Lewis Black. He is very emotional and his matterial is often based on a lot of real world issues.
3. Louis C. K. His matterial can be revolting at times, very sickening if you have a light stomach. It also tends to be random making you think what the fuck made you come up with that?
Hmmmmmmmm...I am into comedy, but just kind of take it for what it is. Never really knew Pandora offered comedy. Okie dokie then. Will have to check that out.
Went to my first comedy show for my 21st birthday and saw comedian Jen Kober. She was very graphic mind you, but I think most of them are, and she was a hoot. Almost fell out of my chair 3 times. Mind you, I'd had 3 Margaritas already.Anyways, here's her YouTube link if you want to check out some of her funnies: https://www.youtube.com/user/jenkopro?feature=watch
I'll definitely check out Demetri Martin since you say his jokes have a lot of meaning behind them and are very intelligent thought out, sounds interesting. Also, think I might check out Lewis Black. His name sounds familiar actually. Now when you say emotional, do you mean all emotions or what? I tend to write with strong emotion (I write a lot. Poems, short stories, etc...so just curious). And I think I'd like him because I tend to like stuff that is more practical and related to real life issues.
And one last thing, how do I look up this stuff on Pandora?
Thanks, Ryan! Appreciate it bud!
Jay
Lol she is funny. I didn't get to listen to all her choices there but the couple I did listen to were good.
Lewis Black's voice was very familiar to me, like he was in a movie or something but outside of comedy I don't know where else I could have heard him. He acts very angry and does a damn good job of it, though of course he isn't actually angry, he just does it to make his act more dramatic and amusing.
To find comedy on Pandora type in comedy in the area where you look for a new station, and it should give you some options.
I love stand-up. My favorite by far is Gabriel Iglesias. Check him out when you get a chance, Ryan. He's a brilliant tallent and a great commedian.
Ryan, glad you were able to check some of her videos out. Which ones did you get to see? I keep an eye on her channel. She is a hoot. Got a hat autographed by her, and have my picture taken with her after the show.
Apparently besides being a comedian, Lewis Black has a biography out, and has done several voices in cartoons, and adult swim shows, and movies. My dad actually has his CD that came out in 2008, titled Anticipation, and one from 2003 called Rules of Engagement. Do you have dropbox?
I listened to some of his stuff this morning and totally saw what you meant.
I searched comedy on Pandora, and a bunch of different stuff came up, but most had to do with music, so a bit unsure here. I'm assuming I have to have a specific comedian in mind?
Write Away:
I guess what we're all talking about here would be referred to as stand up, I like that style of comedy as well. Gabriel Iglesias is awesome too. Definitely a brilliant talent and a great comedian. I think one of my favorite performances by him is his "Hot and Fluffy" performances. LOL. Definitely check him out, Ryan.
Oh I have heard him before. His voice is amusing and he is definitely talented, with all those noises and crazy stuff he does during his acts.
I do have Dropbox and I can pm you the info. That's interesting about Lewis. As far as the station on Pandora I can't remember the name of the channel I listen to, but when I get the name I can pm that to you as well. If you use ITunes Radio they have comedy as well, though I've come across a bug on the IPhone where it repeats a lot of the same things over and over again. I don't usually listen to ITunes Radio from my computer but I'll have to see if it does the same thing. But anyway... I'll get back to you with the stuff.
I'm a George Carlin fan, myself. His routines were always incredibly thought-provoking. I also love Eddie Murphy's early stuff, particularly Delirious. To be honest, I don't follow the new stand up comedians unless I'm introduced to them. My ex's brother was an up and coming stand up comedian, so I would often go to local improv shows, but other than that, I haven't kept up with the talent lately.
My vote is for Gabriel. I've gotten a real kick out of his stuff. lol! :)
I was not sure if you'd heard him or not. Most people have. And I think most of your modern day people would agree he is the best. Cannot believe I failed to mention him in my original reply. God, Saturday was a long day though and I was tired, perhaps that is why.
Anyways, yes if you want those albums, PM me or pqn me that info. Do you want them? Yeah PM me that info too please bud, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Ryan.
Don't use ITunes anything, I am an android man. Sorry to burst your bubble. LOL Just kidding. ITunes and Apple are just not so high on my list. They make my computer lag like crazy and ever since I've gotten my Android phone in May of this year, (LG Motion) I have disowned Apple. LOL.
Green Turtle, you sound like an olderish timer, LOL. Notice I made up my own word there. LOL. But that is cool. I have heard of George Carlin but never any of his stuff.
And Dolce, yeah, me too. Although Jen Kober was pretty cool too. Of course big difference seeing them live versus listening on CD, youtube, or TV.
George Carlin always had thought provoking and very funny material. Loui C.K is not for everyone, but his special "chewed up" is probably my favorite of all time. I also enjoy Jim Norton from time to time, and Jim Jefferies. Probably messing the spelling of the last name of that last one up. Anyway, he's from Australia and is hilarious. I intend to see him next time he comes through NYC.
Oh man the Delirious stuff from Eddie Murphy! That's from my junior high and high school days and damn that stuff was hilarious!
One of those tapes you had that you didn't want your mommy or teachers to see you listening to! Hahaha but in today's world he would never get away with the Shoe-throwin' Mama, the uncle and the barbecue, or Mr. T. being a fag.
"Hey boy! You're lookin' mighty cute in those tight jeans!"
Lol Humminahummina and the wild thing were funny euphamisms for sex then.
Wild Thing meaning Tone Loc.
Anyway great stuff and I'll have to check out Loui C.K. George Carlin was truely a great man in comedy though.
Leo, as a family oriented man I'm sure you will enjoy some of Louis's matterial as he makes a lot of jokes about having a divorced wife and young kids. They are harsh though, so hopefully you won't get offended easily lol.
Ryan and all,
I forgot to mention Jeff Dunham. He's a ventrilaquist and funny as hell. He has this great bunch of characters--a cranky old guy named walter, a mexican halapinio on a stick named Jose, and the most memerable--Ahmed, teh dead terrorist.
I realize some may think the last to be in poor taste, but I swear, its not. Once you hear it, you'll know what I mean.
Write away,
Got to love Jeff Dunham, surprised I didn't mention him. I used to watch his stuff on Netflix and I watch him on TV sometimes and YouTube Love most of his characters, but some just "over do it" for me. Jose is my favorite. LOL
Thanks!
I was trying to remember his name for a while. Glad you mentioned him. It's been months since the last time one of my friends played a YouTube clip of him.
I loved stand-up comedy. Being a middle-aged white chick from the South, I do have to admit to loving the Blue Collar Comedy guys. I also like Ralfy May.
Well, Bill Cosby and George Carlin and Steve Martin come to mind.
Ryan, definitely. Plan to revisit some of his stuff later.
Domestic Goddess, I like some of it too, and yes! the blue collar comedy is the best. Fits us Southerners perfectly. Florida born and raised and now living in North Carolina!!! :)
Godzilla, all good ones. Steve Martin, sounds familiar but can't place my finger on him.
Awesome topic. Ok, here we go. Dun haaaaaam. Lmfao. Love Louie CK, Steve Martin, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Fluffy of course, and the blue collar boys. Let's see... Some names that haven't been mentioned, Chris Titus, he's free kin hilarious. Also Chris Hardwick, he has one special called Nerd droid. Oh my god, so wrong but so funny. Jim fuck, I can't remember his name, but he did this impression of the singer from ACDC, and shit was spot on. The band, yes, the actual band, was up there playing with him and the actual lead singer was in the audience laughing his ass off. Uh... Let's see. These guys aren't standup people but they are musicians that do comedy. Steven Lynch and a group called Garfunkle and Oats. Awesome awesome awesome!!! Check them out if you haven't.
I know right? They are really are so awesome the ones we've named so far. I think the dude you're thinking of is Jim Breuer. Am I correct? The guy who also is in Saturday Night Live and who starred in Half Baked from 1988 along with Dave Chapelle?
Am I right? Only reason I know is because my dad is a HUGE comedian fan as you've probably seen from earlier on in this post and he liked that ACDC scene. Actually, it can be watched here, if you want to relive a little and get a good laugh, Latino heat. Thanks to my good research. :) Dad also got a kick out of rewatching this.

Let me know if this was the one you were referring to, or even the right comedian.
Also, will check out the others you mentioned, most I've not heard of.
Oh, and Ryan, loving that Comedy Radio on Pandora! Gets me throuh my sleepless nights and Cardio Workouts at the Gym! LOL Thanks again for showing me that, dude!
